One of the first four people to be awarded Beer Sommelier status in the UK, Peter has had a long and varied career in brewing.Having written the seminal book on the history of the pub - Beer and Britannia - he became editor the trade journal of the microbrewery sector, The Grist, which led to a five year term as General Secretary of the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA), during which time he perusaded the government to introduce Progressive Beer Duty. There then followed 10 years at groundbreaking pioneer craft brewers Meantime, where he was very much in the vanguard of the beer and food matching movement, and where he did every job from branding to brewing, before leving to set up his own brewery A Head In A Hat, which specialised in recreating old recipes from long gone London breweries. He now spends time as an investor and advisor.
